So yeah, WINGS? I agree Markie. REgurgitated imagery.

Markie23 said...

Yep. I agreed with your review EXCEPT...

Markie23 said...

That picture of Jesus. If I saw that man in the airport I would demand they searched every crevice on his body.

Landee said...

That's cuz you're racist. I like it almost as much as the usual red robed pic.

Amanda said...

What did you guys think about fighting with swords during Armageddon?

Markie23 said...

If I died and saw that guy I would be like... Oh crap.

Amanda said...

And the fact that women and children don't fight?

Amanda said...

I didn't like the picture either.

Markie23 said...

I'm using a light saber during the last battle.

Landee said...

Well, we do talk about the armor of God but I kind a thought that was symbolic.

Let's take a vote. How many think this kid is legit?

Amanda said...

I think some parts are alright, but other parts really bothered me. I think the dad was reading into a lot of it. I would say 60% legit.

eekareek said...

Good job getting the discush going Landee

Markie23 said...

The kid is illegitimate... er.. Not legit. And creepy.

Amanda said...

What did you guys think about the Angel Gabriel playing such a big role?

Landee said...

Thanks Eeka. I also did a good job texting you to remind, didn't I?

eekareek said...

I think the dad was definitely feeding some ideas into his head. A lot more than he admitted to. But it was interesting

Landee said...

I say he saw some stuff. And, as for the singing, Markie. Don't you think maybe the angels would be singing songs the kid knows in order to make him feel like he was in a happy place?

I say 40% legit.

Markie23 said...

Did he say God was three people and one of them was Gabriel?

eekareek said...

I personally am quite happy to sit on the sidelines with my kids while the men go and fight

Landee said...

Yeah, Gabriel. Also interesting. Do we call him something different? What did he even do? I was also surprised by that.

Markie23 said...

So if the kid had been Italian they would be singing Ave Maria?

Landee said...

He said "...so as not to lead him in any way" just one too many times to make me think he lead him in every way. Like when your kid keeps insisting he's not lying before you even ask.

Landee said...

Possibly! Or at least they'd be singing in Italiano.

Markie23 said...

yup

eekareek said...

I liked the picture of Jesus too. He looked like a jew. And the hair was awesome

Amanda said...

I liked how he described the pretty music and the pretty colors. I've read that in other life after death experiences.

Markie23 said...

So maybe if a Hindu kid dies God will make himself look like Vishnu just to make him feel happier? Mmmm, I don't buy it.

eekareek said...

I agree about that dad. Can't trust those Baptists or whatever they are.

Amanda said...

I don't know. I was kinda bothered that the picture is so different than our picture. So which is it?

Markie23 said...

Methodists

eekareek said...

I hope my wings are real tiny.

Amanda said...

I was in a hot tub at a resort once and had a nice discussion with someone who was a baptist. As soon as he found out I was a mormon he literally backed away from me and stopping talking. Made me feel like a real weirdo.

Landee said...

No Markie. Non-christians get no such treatment. Duh.

It's not THAT different from our pic, in my opinion. Shorter hair. Heavier eye brows. Dramatic lighting. That's it.

eekareek said...

I get picky about my Jesus pictures. I hate looking at other religions pictures but this one I liked.

Markie23 said...

There is a Mormon legend that a Prophet... can't remember which one... said a certain painting looked most like Jesus. I can picture it in my mind, but I don't know how to find it online, and again, it's probably just Mormon folklore anyway. But it does also happen to be my favorite painting.

Landee said...

Oh yeah, Baptists hate us. Which is fine. Methodists are not so passionate. Presbyterians don't care.

eekareek said...

His nose is definitely Jewish. The girl who drew that picture lives in Idaho. The Jesus picture was her best one.

Landee said...

The one I hate is the one of the Heaven Hug. It's so cheezy.

StandsMom said...

Hi

Markie23 said...

I like the Heaven Hug pic. Esp. the full size one with the desert below. I think the orig. is in the Mormon Battalion museum in San Diego.

Landee said...

The wings thing is funny. I'm surprised he didn't say they all had tinsel halos.

eekareek said...

Nazarenes don't like us either. Or so I have heard.

BTW, did you see the preview for the new Footloose movie?

Markie23 said...

Hi Stands... whatcha think?

Amanda said...

Hi Stands Mom.
Yes, I've heard that Mormon folklore about the picture. Pretty sure it was painted by Del Parson and they gave him feedback on how to paint it....like nose bigger, smaller, etc.

Markie23 said...

I have a sudden craving for a cupcake!

eekareek said...

What about the miscarriage babies?

Amanda said...

Have any of you read Embraced by the Light? I have.
http://www.embracedbythelight.com/

StandsMom said...

There was something about halos, wasn't there?

Landee said...

I saw the preview. It's too soon to remake that. Kevin Bacon isn't even dead yet.

Markie23 said...

Is it another Life-After-Death book?

eekareek said...

It has been awhile since I read this book I am having a hard time remembering all things I wanted to discuss.

Amanda said...

I don't believe the bit about the miscarried babies. I don't think I have 5 babies up in heaven. But that's always been my feeling about it. It may be different for others.

StandsMom said...

I kind of agree. Can't they just remaster the first, or re-release it or something?

Amanda said...

I wish they wouldn't remake movies. Makes me feel old and I'm not.

Landee said...

There was something about light around people's heads.

And shooting down power and what not. Which is BS cuz we all know it comes through the Holy Ghost. Geez...someone get the missionaries over there STAT!

StandsMom said...

Theoretically, we can miscarry and not even realize it. Who knows how many of those could be running around? LOL!!! I think there's a reason they don't get added to the church records if they haven't taken a breath.

eekareek said...

I actually liked this book. Not because I thought it was all true but just that it made me think.

Amanda said...

Embraced by the Light was written by a Mormon....just she never mentions that in the book and got a lot of flack for it. People accused her of writing the book for monetary gain. Orson Scott Card blasted her in an article. The book is interesting and Card's article is interesting. Lots to think about.

eekareek said...

Kevin Bacon's career is dead though.

StandsMom said...

I was frankly annoyed that so many stinking months passed in between everything the little boy said. Don't you think you'd ask some more questions if one of your kids said something? Like - tell me everything or whatever? But he said they'd just patiently wait for him to come up with something else. I don't buy it.

Markie23 said...

If my kid came back from the brink and said he saw Joseph Smith, I'd say "cool". But if she came back and said she saw a fat man with an elephant head, a woman with 12 arms, and a sacred Cobra I'd be seriously alarmed, and I'd write a book about it.

Amanda said...

Eek, I agree. I really liked reading this book.

Landee said...

That bugged me too. The kid would say something, the Dad would go "That's interesting" and then it wouldn't come up for another year. Annoying.

eekareek said...

If you have an early miscarriage then they didn't really get their body.

Landee said...

Ideas of the book aside, I still didn't even like it. The writing was poor. And I was amazed how it dragged on considering it was like, 100 pages.

StandsMom said...

Do any of y'all watch that I survived beyond and back show?

Markie23 said...

I did lots of skipping through family stories. I can see how someone could easily read this book while shopping at a Costco.

Amanda said...

Well, I have to get my kiddos to bed. They aren't angels (yet) and actually need sleep. Thanks for the great pick Eek and see you all next month. Landee, I'll facebook you about the Green Smoothie Girl class. There's one in Louisville and Castle Rock this weekend.

eekareek said...

I know. Why did it take years to get the whole story out of him? I would be fishing out the details immediately.

StandsMom said...

Night Amanda!

eekareek said...

Bye Amanda. I read about 80% of the book while in the mother lounge while nursing my baby.

Markie23 said...

If he didn't stretch the story out over the course of years he couldn't have written a book about it.

eekareek said...

He had to stretch the questions out over years to hurry and teach him about Heaven.

StandsMom said...

Refresh. Wait. Refresh. Wait. ....:)

Landee said...

K. No more books like this but I'm glad I read it. If only to see how much I disagreed with it.

Watching "Singing in the Rain" with the kids. See y'all later.

Markie23 said...

ok, goodnight everyone, and I hope you all have Jesus in your heart.

StandsMom said...

Singin' in the Rain?? I've got my Dad, my brother and two nephews showing up in the morning. So I've gotta call it for tonight too. Looking forward to a new book to read. Who's turn? Anyone know?

eekareek said...

Night Landee. I should get going and take care of my screaming baby. Who is picking next months book? I think it's Markie's turn

Landee said...

I say Markie picks (his nose).

And the next book.

Markie23 said...

Landee says I should pick the next one and LandeesayMarkiedo. Let you know tomorrow what it is.

What is this you guys have read? Sounds extremely groovy. And not the "far-out!" kind of groovy, but the "I feel awkward and uncomfortable" kind of groovy.

Jenny ESP said...

Also, it warms my heart to see the SRBC chuggin' along.
