Hope it's not just you and me Sammy.

samandlysander said...

Soo sorry I'm late guys. I lost track of time at Target and almost forgot the discussion!

Landeelu said...

I'm glad you're late!!! I literally just read the last word and then ran downstairs to my computer.

Landeelu said...

WORST ENDING EVER!!!! btw.

samandlysander said...

Yeah I'm worried about that.

samandlysander said...

Heck yeah!! Major cliffhanger!!

Markie23 said...

Well, it's a series... it has to stop somewhere. I thought that was as good a place as any.

Landeelu said...

Oh, it's a series? Oh good. Then she and Leon will most likely be having intercourse in the next book then. PHEW!

Markie23 said...

Worst ending ever was The Book Thief.

Markie23 said...

We can only hope.

Landeelu said...

Just read your review Markie and I agree...between HG and FofH&T.... sort of leaning toward FofH&T.

But I like it. I mean, I wanted to see how it ended and stuff.

Markie23 said...

Where's Memzy. She's the only other one who seems to have read the book this month.

samandlysander said...

Yeah I don't know how Leon is gonna get outta that one!

Markie23 said...

Yep, I thought it dragged a little in the middle, but drew me in toward the end, and left wantin' some more.

Landeelu said...

I know Stands read it too. I'll text both of them.

Markie23 said...

Sad when Gaia's mom died.

Landeelu said...

I was sadder about her Dad. How dare Bonnie get preggers going on 40! Geez.

samandlysander said...

It got me hooked from the beggining. I thought it was pretty crazy when she cut the baby out of that lady!

Markie23 said...

yeah, gross

StandsMom said...

Hi!

Landeelu said...

I think about 40 paragraphs about the Enclave and how it's oppressive could have been taken out. I got it the first time thx.

Landeelu said...

Oh, and I cracked the ribbon code right off the bat. Deerrrrrrrr.

(jk)

Markie23 said...

Hey Mother of Stand.

StandsMom said...

I was annoyed that she seemed so naive to cameras and stuff.

Landeelu said...

Hi Stands! So nice to see you.

samandlysander said...

Hey!! So glad someone else is here it was feeling like a pretty lonely disscusion!

Markie23 said...

I wanted a little historical context about how they got to this point of taking peoples babies.

Memzy said...

I'm here!! I'm here!!

Landeelu said...

Leon is hawt, btw. Damaged goods, but hawt. At least in my mind.

I loved him smashing that girl's head with a pitcher without even a second thought.

StandsMom said...

There was historical content.

StandsMom said...

Wasn't there?

Landeelu said...

I thought Leon explained about the babies.

Memzy said...

I was so pizzed that it ended that way. Left it WAY too wide open. But otherwise it was a quick and easy read. Nice job Sam!

Memzy said...

Landee, I agree. Leon can investigate me anytime

Landeelu said...

Hi Memzy!

Welcome...enjoy some mircobiotics while you wait. Or what was that nasty stuff called?

StandsMom said...

It gave me the heebies to think about all of those adopted children falling in love with each other - having NO clue that they might be hooking up with an unknown sibling. Gross.

Memzy said...

I was weirded out that Gaia had no idea her mom was preggers. Srsly?

Markie23 said...

Maybe I just don't remember. In THG there was a clear reason why they were putting kids in the brutal games and why the people in the districts went along with it. In this one it didn't make as much sense to me why people were willing to give up their babies.

Landeelu said...

You can't help who you fall in love with. Just ask Leon's bi-polar sister.

samandlysander said...

I loved Leon too! I can't believe some of these people didn't put up more of a fight with their babies getting taken. I would go crazy!

Memzy said...

Agreed Stands. But currently I'm reading a book about a prehistoric clan of cave people and they just have sex with whoever because they don't understand that's what makes babies. Soooo

Landeelu said...

They serve the Enclave.

As do I, masister.

StandsMom said...

I'd keep it a big fat secret that I was even pregnant. I mean - I'd have to hide for 6 months...

StandsMom said...

Memzy, eww! What book is it?

Markie23 said...

Could anybody read the words Masister and Mabrother without an "urban" accent?

Memzy said...

I know right? Double ewe. It's called "Clan of the Cave Bear".

Landeelu said...

No. It was full-on ebonics in my head every time.

Memzy said...

Markie, I heard it in my head more of a 1400's cathedral building days accent.

StandsMom said...

Double sheep?

Memzy said...

Can we talk for a minute about the scar that Gaia's parents did to her? I understand their motive but....srsly? coulda they thought of something less....painful?

Landeelu said...

So....thoughts on whether you'd like to have grown up inside the wall or outside?

Go.

StandsMom said...

Or, like her arm or something? Not half her face. Wow!

Markie23 said...

I guess it had to be something plainly visible.

samandlysander said...

They didn't have to mess the entire side of her face either.

Markie23 said...

I'm a "live outside the wall" kind of guy.

Landeelu said...

I don't judge them for that. I'd disfigure my kid in a heartbeat.

Jaykay. I'd never do that. Prolly.

StandsMom said...

Outside the wall, if I could have had really ingenious parents like Gaia's. Their gardening and water collecting and stuff. P.S. Do you think you could have 'checked' and delivered a baby from your mom?

samandlysander said...

I'd take my chances in the wastelands!

Memzy said...

For sure outside the wall. With Leon.

Landeelu said...

Not MY mom...no. Why'd you make me think about that???????????????? ::barfing::

Markie23 said...

lol Stands. Not a good visual.

Landeelu said...

I'd wanna live inside the wall, Leon would fall in love with ME, then we'd escape to the Dead Forest and live happily ever after.

StandsMom said...

Well, Gaia did it!!! Without even a second thought! Like it was NO BiG Deal!?!? I was like...wait a minute?

Memzy said...

Nobody's mom Stands. Nobody's.

Landeelu said...

Gaia is a midwife. She cut that freaking baby out of those convicts fhs. She's a "special soul."

samandlysander said...

Ewww! No way. I think everyone should be doing their best not to get preggers in that situation. Irresponsible of Gaias momma!

Memzy said...

All midwives are "special souls"

StandsMom said...

Maybe there's some midwiffffery oath or something and it just doesn't matter who's having the baby.

Landeelu said...

What'd you expect the narrative to say?

"Gaia knew she should see how far the labor had progressed but she couldn't help thinking about the fact that this was her MOM's vagina. The very vagina she herself had sprang from as a newborn babe."

Um, no.

Landeelu said...

I love that that comment was #69 btw.

Memzy said...

No newborn every "springs" from a vagina. Fact.

StandsMom said...

I sort of hated how Gaia was just do something - regardless of the consequences, like cutting the baby out of the lady.

StandsMom said...

"Ewww. It's my mom and I don't even have gloves!"

Markie23 said...

We had dog die with a belly full of puppies. Yeah, it was tragic - for my wife who loves animals. Anyway, I called the vet to see if I brought the dog down if they could save the puppies. They said no, if I wanted save them I had to cut them out myself immediately. I couldn't do it. I'm not proud of it, but there was no way I could do that.
I'm just sayin... if I was Gaia there would be at least one less baby in the Enclave.

StandsMom said...

Oh Markie...that's SO sad. I don't know if I could have either.

Landeelu said...

Dr. Markie was never gonna be in your future then, huh?

I couldn't do it either. Plus, you'd need a lot of nipples to feed all those pups.

Memzy said...

That's super sad Markie

StandsMom said...

I don't know. It just bugs that she was so seriously obedient to deliver those babies and turn them over the the enclave - and then out of nowhere, she's cutting babies out of dead people and running through the place like a criminal. I guess losing her parents just put her over the edge?

StandsMom said...

Teets. I think they're called teets.

Landeelu said...

Well yeah, something clicked when her parents got hauled off after their faithful loyalty for years. She was like "screw this."

She was naive but it wasn't her fault.

StandsMom said...

Speaking of babies and dogs, what happens when a werewolf procreates? Is it another werewolf?

Markie23 said...

I know what you mean Stands. Goes back to how I wanted some more explanation as to how people would get to a point that they would give up their babies to the Enclave.

samandlysander said...

I thought about it and I don't think I could do it either. Might be mean, but I think I'd have a panic attack before even attempting to cut the baby out.

Markie23 said...

The Twilight discussion was years ago Stands.

StandsMom said...

It NEVER dies, Markie. Neverever. And it's more in the realm of Breaking Dawn, which is still up for chatter until movie time.

Landeelu said...

The outside people were BRAINWASHED by the Tvaltar into thinking their kids would have a better life inside the wall.

Remember? At first it was to protect kids from bad family situations...then it was voluntary..... then it progressed into being mandatory.

It's like the frog in a pot on the stove. No one jumps out.

Landeelu said...

The opening scene is pretty cool, btw. Gaia taking that baby from that lady. I was like What the crap is going on here?

Memzy said...

Profound landee

Memzy said...

yeah the opening scene really drew you in. agreed

samandlysander said...

It is really sick that sisters are running around falling in lovewith their bros and cousins and the don't even know it. Good thing Leo and Gaia were'nt related!

Landeelu said...

I know. I'm super deep. Especially when it comes to YA novels.

Landeelu said...

I made Stands tell me when I was 1/2 done if Leon and Gaia were related. I wouldn't have kept reading if they were.

Markie23 said...

Yeah, I remember that Landee. I just wanted to know what happened between now and then. Was it the economic collapse brought on by Obama and the Dems? Then it would make more sense. :o)

StandsMom said...

I was worried she'd totally fall for him and then find out he was her brother. Phew.

Landeelu said...

Oh got it.... like, how they had returned to this ancient way of life to begin with? What cause the apocalypse. Riiiiight.... yeah, I dunno.

Memzy said...

That ribbon code was whack yo.

Landeelu said...

Oh wait... they ran out of fuel. And the population was to dependent on it to survive.

Markie23 said...

Yep, they should have tapped Alaska.

samandlysander said...

Didn't they say the rest of the earth was all dried up or something like that. It's been a while since I read the book.

Markie23 said...

Ohhhh, the UN-lake!

Markie23 said...

It was global warming. Al Gore was right! DANG

StandsMom said...

Alaska is probably where they're all living now. Happily, with oil and everything.

Landeelu said...

The author must be a huge Al Gore fan.

Landeelu said...

i already refer to alaska as the dead forest.

StandsMom said...

Algore. Hmph.

StandsMom said...

Do you think the author decided at the last minute to name her sister Maya because he realized that maybe people wouldn't know how to pronounce Gaia?

Landeelu said...

K, so are we done? No more insights or witty observations?

Markie23 said...

Uhmmm, does anyone know where Jenny is? Is she mad at us?

Landeelu said...

I thought that too! I was like "Well, that clears up any mispronounciations of Gaia anyway."

StandsMom said...

Did y'all read Gone? Quite often, Gaia's name made me think of the gaiaphage.

Landeelu said...

I texted her and she has thus far ignored. I'm guessing she hates us and this baby she has created called Smart Remarks. She'd prolly give it up to the enclave if she had the chance.

Memzy said...

I'm good I got nothing else. I have no idea about Jenny. She's very busy I do know that.

samandlysander said...

I wondered that too. Who's pickin the next book?

StandsMom said...

The last time I texted with her she said, "I'm taking a hiatus from social internet stuff cuz I was spending too much time on it and I have a bunch of goals I want to focus on for a while."

Markie23 said...

Nope haven't read that one Stands. Sounds intriguing.
K. I'm done. Thanks again for stepping up Samantha. I wonder what'll happen next month.

Memzy said...

Bye gize!! Thanks again Sam!

StandsMom said...

Thanks! Fun book. I need another book to read so I can balance out my new-found addiction to Pinterest. Heaven help me.

Landeelu said...

K peeps. It's been real.

Landee out, mabrother and masisters.

Landeelu said...

Thanks Sam!!

samandlysander said...

Yeah. Maybe if we wanna kep this going someone else will just have to take up the role of picking the book next month.

samandlysander said...

Bye guys. Thanks for coming!!
