Jeepers Mother of Stand... where do ya reckon all the folks is at?
Howdy! I was just waiting for mountain time is all.
So, what did ya'll think?
Oh! I'm so glad you're here!
::panting::Just....ran... in...the... door... y'all
I see you've all gotten really deep into this discussion...lemme catch up
So, Markie & Jenny... what is your problem?
Jenny you voiced my thoughts much better than I could... No growth in Piper. That was the main problem. And yes, that girl needs to continue her edukashun.
Any stimutatin' topics for us to discuss, Stands, or should we just have at it?
Piper had been sheltered her whole life, I don't know what you were expecting from her, you gize. Give her a break!
Thanks for sticking up for me, I mean, for Piper...ahem. I'm not good at leading much, so just have at it.
I was expectin her to not be so gal-dern stu-pid.
They've gone tharn.
First of all, I think she was like, 12 years old.
Geez Landee!!! Hurry up and wait, already. :) Glad you made it back. Was the dinner good?
THEN she was sheltered/bullied/taken away from her parents/drugged/etc.
I love Stands... I mean, Piper! It's not that at all, yalls! I just wanted her to learn and grow, just like Stands did when she moved away from the farm!
Her mind was foggy from the druggage & she was "happy" for the first time in her life. It took a while to snap out of it.
I'm just a soooper fast typer. Sorry. And the dinner was delish.. I made those oreo balls for dessert. MAJOR HIT!
Sarah just pointed at Landee's picture and said "Is that meeeeee?"
I must say the book came alive for me a couple weeks after I read it, when I saw the spittin' image of Piper McCloud on Landee Lu's web site. I wish I had had that picture in my mind before I started reading it. I would have enjoyed it so much more. But by the end of the book, that was EXACTLY the picture I had in mind of lil' Piper. The moment I saw it a huge grin came over me, and I couldn't wait to snag it and move it on over the SRBC site.
Just checking in. Totally forgot!! My brother is in town with his kids. Going to read posts brb.
I'll be right back...bed time for the kiddos.
But Markie.... you thought Piper was dumber than a bullfrog in boilin' water. I don't think that's a compliment.
I mean, I THOUGHT it was funny... till I read your review and stuff.
Er.. Uhmmm. Well...
Exactly Markie. Exactly. Good day sir!
Piper could fly!
You said she was dumb and lame and stupid and was me.
did ya ever try thinking "light" there Landee?
Blogger ate my comment... trying again... So I get that Piper was sheltered and all, and super sweet and nice and kind hearted and all, but what was the point of her going through that big worldly experience if she wasn't going to learn anything from it? Weren't you at all disappointed by that?
It kind of diminishes her adventure
I hover constantly. I'm gonna start thinking "light" and see what happens. Plus an invisible man was in my room last night.
I think if the wind caught those pony tails just right...
I don't get that she "didn't learn" anything. She wasn't the same at the end! Much less trusting. Much less naive. Still trying to be kind and make a difference where she could.
An invisible man? Watching you sleep?
I'm here ::raising hand::
If you were Piper's mom would you let Conrad move in to the room next door?
I think she learned that you can't judge people by their appearance or actions too. And stuff.
She didn't grow enough from the experience. Compare her to Conrad's transformation.
No Markie. But I'm Mormon. Not some backwoods lametard.
I wasn't really even thinking about whether she 'learned' anything. Just that she escaped, and I loved her integrity. And, the towns-folk learned to respect her.
Conrad was a GENIUS. That's not a fair comparison.
She was still very simpleminded. Even Conrad said so. I was just disappointed because I wanted her to be more savvy. Still keep her sweetness, but stop saying dumb things and make a person cringe.
Remember that giraffe, you gize? It could light up...er... something.
I hated the giraffe torture. Too sad.
Conrad was a genius, and still humble enough to see that that didn't mean he was always right. I wish the whole book had been from his perspective. I LOVED him.
I LOVEHEARTLOVE the word "Lametard." That's great. I certainly wouldn't let Conrad live in the room next door. He'd be sleepin' in the barn out back.
I just wanted her to stop talking...by the end of the book, I needed someone to speak English to me desperately.
I was cringing when Piper was in the weird hold thingy that was crushing her legs.
Ummmm. HELLO everyone!!Conrad and Piper are gonna make out soon. I can feel it. And then they'll get caught by Ma and Pa and have to do extra chores.
And PS Conrad was waiting for a flyer so he could escape without having to use the elevators.... doyeeeee! (and I'm not even a genius, you gize). If you recall, he was planning on getting out of there with just her but then PIPER (the NICE one) wouldn't leave there rest of them so the plan changed.
I guess they could have all been gathered on top of some huge gold cornucopia, trying to figure out how to escape.
I was totally bummed that the only one that seemed more interesting was J and she hardly talked about him. I wanted to know why he seemed warn down and stressed.
Ya reckon Piper knows about the ladies preventative?
I pictured Hellion as a young Elizabeth Taylor. Anyone?
Those muttations were nast. Hellion's mutt was the worst.
Yes, I pictured Hellion as Anne Hathaway with blunt bangs and a bob.
Markie, I think it's your job to discuss those "delicate" topics with Piper.
Conrad will be played by Shia Lebouf.
And Piper will be played by.......Landee.......at age 8
Oh, uh - hi to Markie, Jenny, Landee, Memzy and Cristin. :D
For the most part, we expect characters to grow throughout the story arc in a book, Piper just didn't fulfill that expectation for me. Doesn't mean I didn't like her for who she was, just means I wanted more from the story. Spittin' image of Landee Lu too, so that counts for somethin'
Shia doesn't even LOOK smart so I don't know how he can act smart.
And Piper as me (obviously)Conrad as MacCauley Culkin (back in the day)The invisible guy as this air area right here by my chair but with the voice of Brad Pitt.
Young Elizabeth Taylor. I agree with that. I can't picture Anne Hathaway being a beeeeach.
Jespy is getting all technical with her words like "growth" and "arc"...I don't think Kris or MJ are growing or arcing.
Yes. Voice of Brad Pitt. Liking that.
Stands... have you not seen her as the "White Queen" comin' up in the new Alice in Wonderland? Total beeeatch... but remember, she has to be "nice" at the beginning.
I can totally picture Anne being a "B", she has that look about her...like she looks perfect but underneath is hiding a loon.
Exactly Cristin! Thank. You.::giving Stands "the look"::
Yes, Jenny. I truly appreciate your perspective, while secretly feeling my lack of edukashun and exposure to adult things.
Can't believe y'll called Anne Hathaway a Beeeach! Ooooh, why I oughta...
Liz Taylor is perf! And Landee and Maccullay or how ever you spell it.If you could pick yer own super power yall, what would it be?
Wait... I meant Kiera Knightly as the B.
I'm lollerzing at Stands thinking she's Piper. You seem so cultured and wordly to me.
Alice in Wonderland, wha?
My super power would be the ability to block out my screaming kids. In actuality, I'm almost there...so you can just call me a super hero now if you'd like.
My super power would DEFINATELY be to time travel.
(sssshhhh.... apparently Stands doesn't read Jespy's blog. Don't tell Jespy)
I'd want to read people's minds. But only when I WANT TO... not always. Kinda like the cop in Heroes.
But, then again, I just finished reading The Time Travelers Wife sooooo
No no no no!!! I didn't call her a beeeeach. I said I can't see her playing a beeeach. She was in that missionary movie...you know - the one with the guy on the beach. And I mean a real beach that time, with sand and stuff.
WHY CAN'T YOU LEAVE ANNE, AND KEIRA ALONE!! OH, AND BRITNEY!!!
I would never want to read people's minds. There way too much crazy out there.
ooooooooooooh was that good Memzy???
Yall, I can't keep up wit dis discushun on a laptop! I'm feeling Piper yall! And Stands, I have no formal edukashun, so don't worry. Grew up on a farm in Idyho.
It was sooooooooo good. I'm incredibly sad that it's over. But it is a little racy in parts.
Is that how you spell racey? Racy?
OMGosh, LandeelouLanderson. I'm so ----speechless.
Why was it fine for Sarah in These Is My Words to speak like that but not Piper? You gize are twofaces.
I don't know how to spell but I get it. It's a book that I HAVE to go buy...like tomorrow.
Cristin? Are we gonna have some "racy" next month?
I don't know why I'm so annoyed with her speaking...maybe it's because once I found out it took place in modern day that I had an expectation that she should know how to speak.
Because Sara lived 150 years ago.
And I can't wait for the movie to come out too! Do it Cristin!!
I lived in South Carolina.... she speaks rather well, I'd say.
Well, we COULD have racy(racey?) this month if you guys can stand it because I have the perfect book.
I like Anne. I like Kiera as the characters she's played (can't say about her fer reels) and Britany...oh sorry. I just threw up in my mouth a little.
MEMZY AND CRISTIN! FHS!!! We are NOT TALKING ABOUT THAT BOOK RIGHT NOW!
fine...no need to go postal.
Oh geez. FINE!! Cristin...call me.
K, the little boy that stuttered. Melt my heart.
Rasssseeeeeee....like rated what? PG13? R? NC17 (do they even use that rating anymore?)?
I'm already there. From everyone expecting soooo much outta these durn books to you gize talking about some other random book......::hovering in my chair::
L-- you are missing the point. Go back and reread my review. I don't have time to explain it again. I can't keep up, stupid laptop!
PG-13.::pushing Landee back down into her chair::
where's Amy and her laptop anyway?
I "get the point"... she didn't grow, she's stupid, blah blah blah.
Are you still in Phoenix Jespy?
I'm on a laptop... what's yer problem? Wait, is it a Mac?
Oh man, I read the book and was ready for the discussion but I got busy with the baby and forgot.
Is it so wrong for me to want Piper to be my new bff?
How come your laptop is giving you trouble? I'm on mine. Am I just allowing myself to be satisfied with less than what I COULD be having? Piper could have hung back and stayed in the crap-everybody-hates-Piper town. But, she reached out and tried to find something better. It turned out to be crap-torture-land-crazy-lady school. I think I'd love it if Piper were in our YW. She and Landee could totally zip by Sonic for RT44's.
Listen, how pointless would it be if we all had the exact same opinion about these here books, Landee? Relax, take panties out of bunch. It's supposed to be fun.
Hey Mother of Stand. Just want you to know that this book was not "Lametard". I was entertained, and it's nice to have something not too deep and heavy now and then.
SAMMY!! I thought maybe you were still asleep. I called earlier, and told Jenny to be sure and remind you about the discush.
I agrees, it's nice to have something light and fluffy to read.
Do you think Sonic would let flying people in the drive thru?
Light and fluffy can be just the right stuffy!!
maybe...once she charmed the pants off them.
It would be fun Jespy if we all had the same opinion... remember Breaking Dawn? Exactly.
Yeah she just reminded me. I really liked this book by the way.
If Sonic didn't let flyers in I would have to give up my ability. Plain and simple.
Yeah, I'm in Phoenix. I'm just not used to a laptop, I guess. The mouse is difficult to get used to. No mac.
Speaking of Breaking Dawn...MemZ, you were just joshin' about not knowing nuthin' about the feathers, right?
I'd read the dood's mind at Sonic and then realize that he actually loves flyers and actually, it's always happy hour for flyers. Then I'd tell you to go on through.
Was Vegas just not warm enough for you Jespy?
What was the name of the rainbow girl? I really liked her. :::single tear:::
Samantha loved the book you gize.
I did enjoy the light fluffy read. I'm glad Stands picked it! Was looking forward to discussing what I liked and didn't like about it with yall.
I think the Las VEgas weather was here in Portland so I'm sure she had to go somewhere else to melt.
I don't remember her name and I'm too lazy to look it up in your book but I want to be like her parents.
No I wasn't joking Stands. It's like my brain jumped from "slow" to "borderline downs". Help me recover.
I know her parents...there are lots of them here in Oregon.
I really did like it. I kept thinking they were going to find the rainbow girl on one of the experimental levels.
MemZ! No! I can't help you. If you have it in you to forget the feathers...I'm - just - sorry.
We were looking to go somewhere hotter this weekend, Markie. No review from Memzy and Sam? What's you gize think?
I kept hoping that they would find rainbow girl and help her get her powers back...but alas...no...sniff sniff
I'm having some weird memory of a girl who was really snotty about her clothes. Who was that?
I can't think of any practical use for super rainbow power.
I just answered Memzy's question on YOUR blog. Gotta keep it clean over here.
What this talk about feathers? I'm lost.
It might be useful in less green areas of the world coughlasvegascough
I agree Markie. Rainbow Girl was useless. Cute & nice, but useless.
Thank you Landee. I'm relieved.
I was a huge fan of Rainbow Bright growing up.
Plus don't the care bears make rainbows from their belly's to make the world a better place??? See??? useful.
Rainbow girl was NOT useless. Can you see a room full of 3 year old girls and her? Absolute JOY...dripping off the walls. In rainbow colors, of course.
But don't you have to have rain to get rainbows? Yeah, don't want to see those. Maybe once or twice a year.
Jespy, if you have rainbow girl, you don't need the rain.
Plus, I think Stands hit the nail on the head...the happiness of little girls around the world.
Crispy, I'm talking about real life here. No such thing as Rainbow Girl.
Did you just say you only want to see rainbows once or twice a year? What's up with that?
What were some of the other powers...the xray vision? I did kind of like the idea that there were animals with the same kind of super power thing.
I only want to see RAIN once or twice a year. good nuff. We have all that CO river water in our Hoover D. We don't need rain.
I kinda felt bad for the girl who shrank every time she talked...
:::::desperately wishing I had my book sitting in this empty space next to me:::::
Sorry you gize, I was just replacing my anvil on my hopping turtle.I'm back.
::giving my book to Stands::
::wondering if my mom is reading the book right now or if she's setting it aside and wondering how long she's going to keep it before she gives it back without reading it::
Oh my gosh... I forgot about the shrinking girl! Talk about lametard.... but she was nice too.
I don't know if they could have made things more obvious with the place being bad. Exactly what they want for dinner, exactly what they want to wear. Uh, sure. But, Hellion Looney Lady underestimated the strength of children....hah haaa!
Sorry gize I gotta go but I promise I'll get my review up soon.
Did it make anyone else wonder how stupid these kids were that kept learning the same things over and over and they never realized it???
::watching my mom pick up Stands' book and wonder out loud if she should read it::Should I encourage or discourage?
Oooh! Let her read it.
Bye Samandlyler. :::giggle:::
Crissy Cris.... they were DRUGGED. They probably forgot all about those lessons the day after they learned them. Hellion thought she had this all figured out... and she did... until she made the fatal mistake of picking up Piper McCloud from her farm.
I thought this book was your BFF? Definitely have your mom read it.
Ok, well, I've stayed my hour. Thank you Mother of Stand for taking the SRBC Host Challenge. Good job! I can't wait to find out what next months selection is. You have me very intrigued there Cristin. EEEEEEKKKKKKKK!!!!!
Yes - seeeee? The one you would expect the least from.
Say that all dramatically, like you're a movie preview voice over guy.
Ok gize, OMG it burns is calling my name...along with my friend. I'll post this months book as soon as I get back...maybe...if I've decided by then.
Bye Sam! Thanks for joining in!
Oh bye Markie. Just an hour, huh?
It's not my BFF, Hunger Games and GITYD are my literary BFFs. I just don't think it needed the paper shredder treatment SOME people gave it.
Bye Markus and Sam! Bye Cristin! Is everyone leaving?
Bye Markie! Glad you were here! I would have been eaten alive by these peeps! Bye Crispy! Can't wait to see what you pick. No pressure.
Oh...it's not over already is it? I don't want it to be. My bff's are all traveling the world (alaska, utah) and entertaining family. I'm dying.
Ayight! Thanks Stands! You did an awesome job hosting. And picked a great book too, as it sparked a good discussion. Had fun reading it too. See yalls later...
:::::sigh::::: You're welcome. Thanks for enjoying it. I can't wait to find out this months book either. School starts in two days!!! I'm giddy with excitement.
I knew about the feathers!!!!! But I thought there was some other connection with the feather FALLING down somewhere.
Well...er...ok.... I just went pee and it looks like everyone is gonzo. Thanks Stands for a breezy summer read.Looking forward to next month!
No...I just love the thought of the last two or three feathers still drifting toward the floor (or whatever they land on). Oh...maybe that's too much info.
Not too much info. I love it! See, I'm not as dumb as y'all thought! Night then gize. Loved it Stands! Look forward to next month!
wow. i think i need to read breaking dawn again....
